Death Denial is a Rampant Challenge

We're largely underprepared and overly anxious. We have outsourced dying. We have forgotten the art of companioning one another through our final moments.

It's time to remember. To re-embrace our humanness. To reclaim our mortality. And to rehumanize death.

Together we can. Together we are ... as death literacy specialists.

Tenets of Death Literacy

People have the right to:

  • Be fully informed
  • Be heard
  • Receive dignified care through illness and death

As death literacy specialists, it’s our ongoing responsibility to be familiar with the dying process, the deathcare system, and any available, related resources and beneficial services to enable us to effectively assist others in their journeys.

We don’t necessarily have to be the direct source–

we can be the bridge to options.

Program Details

This 4-week training program takes place within a user-friendly online "classroom." The time commitment is 3-7 hours per week, based on your goals and availability. Your cohort of up to about 20 learners will have a special community section for discussions and assignments.

Online Classroom

Lessons containing thoughtfully prepared curriculum (presentations, text explanations, videos, resources, PDFs, and comment threads) will open up throughout the four weeks. You can visit the course platform anytime and work through the published content at your convenience!

On the first day of the program, an introductory lesson will be available, followed by three main sections that open up as we go:

WEEK ONE: Section 1: Defining Death Literacy: Foundational Knowledge

WEEK TWO: Section 2: Developing Death Literacy: Understanding and Explaining the End of Life

WEEK THREE: Section 3: Disseminating Death Literacy: Programming Content

Then, you'll enjoy an "integration period" to catch up and/or dive deeper before the "Farewell" section becomes available.

Live Sessions

The live group meetings occur on the first and last day of the course at noon ET (60-90 minutes long). They are recorded and shared. There's also a "meet and greet" with your cohort the second Wednesday of the program (early afternoon ET). The 1:1 strategy sessions happen during weeks 3-4. Scheduling details are sent directly to learners.

PLUS you'll hear from past graduates who have customized and launched death literacy offerings in their own communities!

 Cost: $345
